Step into the world of Peranakan Batik and discover the ancient art of wax-resist dyeing in this immersive one-day workshop at Weaving Worlds Studio. Guided by special guest teacher Shuen-Li Spirit, you will explore heritage, symbolism, sustainability, and bold self-expression — all through the meditative practice of batik.
Discover the art of traditional batik in this one-day workshop. You’ll learn how to draw with hot wax (canting) and create your own textile artwork on fabric. Inspired by nature — you’ll design and dye your own unique piece.
No experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
What you’ll do:
- Learn the basics of Peranakan batik techniques
- Work with traditional canting tools and beeswax
- Experiment with colour, layering and dye
- Create your own batik artwork to take home
We work on reused textiles and use high-quality wax and dyes from Indonesia, combining tradition with a sustainable approach.
At the end of the day, you’ll go home with your finished batik piece, framed in an embroidery hoop.
We warmly invite you to spend a day slowing down, working with your hands, and connecting to colour, culture and your own creative spirit.
